NBU net sales fall to $675 mln last week

KYIV. Jan 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The net sale of dollars by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), after a jump in the last week of last year to $1.102 billion, fell to $674.7 million in the first week of the new year.

According to the information of the National Bank on its website, from January 2 to January 6, it purchased $7.9 million, which corresponds to the usual purchase volumes during the war, while it sold $682.6 million compared to $1.102 billion a week earlier.

In the cash market, the U.S. dollar again rose in price by the end of the week and remained at the level of about UAH 40.75/$1, but the spread narrowed slightly.

As reported, the volume of interventions of the National Bank in December increased to $3.16 billion from $1.57 billion in November and $2.03 billion in October.

In general, in 2022, the NBU purchased $3.268 billion and EUR 111.0 million on the market, and sold $26.381 billion and EUR 1.789 billion.

Including since the beginning of the war, the purchase of foreign currency has reached $2.611 billion and EUR 111.0 million, and the sale – $23.61 billion and EUR 1.789 billion.

In December, the National Bank’s international reserves increased by 1.9%, or by $536.4 million, to $28.491 billion, thanks to foreign exchange earnings from international partners, which exceeded the NBU’s interventions to sell foreign currency to support the fixed exchange rate.

In general, in 2022 they fell by 7.9%, or $2.45 billion.
