KYIV. Jan 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Net sales of dollars by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) last week decreased to $420.8 million from $530.9 million a week earlier, according to data on the regulator’s website.
According to them, from Monday to Thursday of last week, for which the central bank had already published data, purchases of foreign currency by bank clients grew from $194.04 million on Monday to $228.45 million on Thursday.
The official hryvnia exchange rate strengthened by a total of 7 kopiikas on Monday, to UAH 37.4521/1 $ and after a pause on Tuesday, its weakening began on Wednesday: first by 7 kopiikas, then by 6 kopiikas on Thursday and 20 kopiikas on Friday, to UAH 37.7811/$1.
Meanwhile, the reference value of the hryvnia exchange rate, set by the National Bank at 12:00, fell by 23 kopecks on Friday, to UAH 37.7522/$1.
In total, over the past week the hryvnia weakened by 0.7%, or 26 kopiikas, but overall since the beginning of the year it has strengthened by 0.6%, or 22 kopiikas. Since the transition of the National Bank to the managed flexibility regime on October 3, 2023, the official exchange rate of the hryvnia has fell by 3.3%, or by UAH 1.22.
At the same time, on Friday, January 26, the national currency weakened by 0.2%, or 7 kopiikas, and in the cash market to UAH 38.37/$1.
