KYIV. Sept 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has said that no funds were envisaged for elections in the national budget for 2024.
“The government is no an elected body, therefore the government is least interested in elections. No funds are envisaged for elections in the national budget for the next year, and there is not even a line ‘for elections’,” he said at a press conference on Friday.
The prime minister stressed that his position on the elections coincides with that of the president: at the moment, there are no legal mechanisms and understanding of how to hold elections amid a full-scale war.
Shmyhal said that there is no understanding of how could servicemen vote in the zone of hostilities, how international observer could observe such elections in dangerous areas, and there is also no answer to the question of what should be done with the occupied territories and refugees abroad as well as internally displaced persons who are not always registered.
“The main thing for us is the recognition of election results… If we, together with our partners, can ensure this, then we will talk about this issue, study it, find solutions and options,” he said.
