Organic products in Ukraine grown on 370,000 ha in 2021 – Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy

KYIV. Nov 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The total area of farmland with organic status in Ukraine in 2021 was 370,000 hectares, which allowed the country to take the fifth place out of 126 countries in the world in terms of exports of organic products to the EU with a share of 6.6% of this market.

As Taras Vysotsky, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, said during his speech at Online Organic Export Days 2022, in 2020 Ukraine ranked 21st in the world and 13th in Europe in terms of organic agricultural land.

Vysotsky also reminded that in Ukraine organic products are produced mainly in compliance with the EU and U.S. laws, they are certified by more than 20 foreign bodies. In addition, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy has already authorized 31 inspectors within the country to monitor compliance with national legislation in the field of organic production.

According to the deputy minister, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy is also working to complete the legal framework for control in the field of organic production, circulation and labeling of organic products.

The international online event Online Organic Export Days will last until December 2 on the B2Match platform. The purpose of the conference is to present the potential of the organic sector of Ukraine to importers and to establish cooperation between organic producers in Ukraine, Albania, Serbia and foreign buyers.

The Entrepreneurship and Export Promotion Office of Ukraine together with the Organic Initiative and the Swiss-Ukrainian programs OT4D (Organic Trade 4 Development in Eastern Europe) and QFTP (Quality FOOD Trade Program in Ukraine) are participating in the organization of the event.
