Poland to demand reintroduction of permits for truckers from Ukraine – Morawiecki

KYIV. Nov 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said that the Polish government will request the reintroduction of permits for truckers from Ukraine, Polish Radio reported on Wednesday.

Morawiecki added that he recognizes a number of arguments of the protesters, and one of the demands is the reintroduction of permits for truckers from Ukraine who enter the territory of the European Union.

At the meeting of the EU Transport Council, scheduled for Monday, December 4, in Brussels, the Polish side asked that one of the agenda items be a discussion of the consequences of the EU-Ukraine agreement, which entered into force on July 1, 2022, and the renewal of international transport permits for Ukrainian transport companies.

Minister of Infrastructure of Poland Alvin Gajadhur presented information about the current situation on the border with Ukraine, where protests by Polish truckers and, more recently, farmers have been ongoing for the fourth week to the Sejm. He said that he spoke with representatives of the truckers for three hours today. According to the minister, “we managed to develop some positive solutions. The protesters refused to block the next two border crossings. Strikes won’t intensify.”
