KYIV. May 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Committee on Human Rights, De-occupation and Reintegration of Occupied Territories, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations recommends that the Verkhovna Rada adopt bill On immigration (No. 6516) at second reading and as a whole, the parliament’s press service said.
“On May 10, a committee meeting was held (…). Based on the results of the consideration of the bills, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine recommended the bill on amendments to the law On immigration, introduced by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, to be adopted at second reading and as a whole,” the parliament said.
The document proposes, in particular, to determine the circumstances under which the fact of being married to a citizen of Ukraine or an immigrant is not recognized as a basis for granting this immigration permit.
The bill also stipulates the reduction of the period for consideration of an application for granting an immigration permit from one year to six months.
In addition, the government proposes to clarify the consequences of the withdrawal of a permanent residence permit (forced return or forced expulsion of a person) and to regulate the issue of obtaining a permanent residence permit by persons who, being minor children, arrived in Ukraine with their parents and could not obtain a passport of a USSR citizen, but were registered with them.
As reported, on January 13, 2022, the Cabinet of Ministers registered in the Verkhovna Rada bill No. 6516 On amending the Law On immigration. Parliament adopted it as a basis on April 11, 2023.
