Profit of Ukrainian banks decreases by 81.1% for ten months – NBU

KYIV. Nov 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The net profit of Ukrainian banks in January-October 2022 amounted to UAH 11 billion, which is 5.3 times (81.1%) less than in the same period last year (UAH 58.4 billion), the press service of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) reported.

Taking into account previously released data, in October Ukrainian banks operated with a net profit of UAH 3.6 billion after a net loss of UAH 1 billion in September.

The regulator noted that the income of banks in October increased by 15.3% compared to September this year, to UAH 31.82 billion, while expenses decreased by 1.6%, to UAH 28.21 billion. Compared to October last year, revenue growth was 23.3%, expenses – 53%.

According to the NBU, in general, in January-October, bank revenues increased by 32% compared to the same period last year, to UAH 286.9 billion.

At the same time, commission income for the ten months decreased by 9%, to UAH 68 billion (whereas it grew by 33.9% over the same period last year).

The result from the revaluation and from purchase and sale transactions was positive and amounted to UAH 38.26 billion, while for the same period last year it was negative and amounted to UAH 3.6 billion.

At the same time, the expenses of the banking system in January-October 2022 increased by 73% compared to the same indicator in 2021 – up to UAH 275.9 billion, including contributions to reserves – 31 times, up to UAH 106.983 billion, while commission expenses – by only 1.8%, up to UAH 28.2 billion.

As reported, Ukrainian banks almost doubled their net profit in 2021 to UAH 77.5 billion compared to UAH 41.3 billion in 2020.
