Purchase prices for pork fall by 5% over week, no rush before New Year – industry association

KYIV. Dec 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Pork prices at the turn of the autumn and winter seasons continue to decline and as of December 1 amounted to UAH 65-68/kg, which is 5% lower than a week earlier, the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders reported.

“Last week, pig meat of slaughter quality was mainly purchased at UAH 65-68/kg, although occasionally there were prices both lower and higher than the mentioned minimum level. The weighted average procurement price for the second week lost 5% against the previous one, amounting to UAH 66.1/kg. Average prices in the west and center gravitate towards this level, while in the east and south they are slightly higher,” the report says.

According to the industry association, forecasts from representatives of the meat processing industry are mixed due to a decrease in the purchase of meat by processors and a reduction in their inventory levels. At the same time, significantly smaller supplies of imported raw materials at the end of autumn almost neutralize the external influence on purchase prices, analysts say.

“Most producers do not expect a pre-holiday rush in the market, but believe that in the first ten days of the month and on the eve of the holidays, the purchase price should resume,” the industry association predicts the situation in December of this year.
