Registrations of new passenger cars in Ukraine in 2022 fall by 63%, Toyota tops sales – Ukrautoprom

KYIV. Jan 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainians registered 37,900 new cars in 2022, which is 63% less than in 2021, the result was the lowest since the beginning of the century, the Ukrautoprom association reported on its Telegram channel.

The first place (as in the previous year) was occupied by the Toyota brand, despite the drop in registrations by 55%, to 6,914 cars.

Second place was retained by Renault, sales of which decreased by 71%, to 3,975 units.

Skoda climbed to third place (from fourth in 2021) with a 54% drop in registrations to 2,829 cars, while Hyundai was fourth with a score of 2,285 cars (52% less), which occupied sixth place in the ranking a year earlier.

Volkswagen closes the top five with 2,274 cars (45% less), which managed to rise from the 9th line of the rating in 2021.

Also in the top ten of the market in 2022 are: BMW with 1,726 cars (41% less); Mercedes-Benz with 1,669 cars (44% less); Mitsubishi with 1,655 cars (61% less); Chery with 1,631 cars (65% less). Kia was tenth with a score of 1,167 units with an 87% drop in sales, which was among the top three in 2021.

The bestseller of the year was the Toyota RAV4 with 2,525 registrations.

Ukrautoprom also said that only crossovers and SUVs entered the top ten in the popularity rating of new car models: the second was Renault Duster with 2,431 vehicles, followed by Toyota Land Cruiser Prado with 1,239 vehicles, Skoda Kodiaq with 1,151 vehicles, Hyundai Tucson with 837 vehicles, Mitsubishi Outlander with 792 vehicles, Chery Tiggo 4 with 712 vehicles, BMW X5 with 655 vehicles, Skoda Karoq with 629 vehicles and KIA Sportage with 623 vehicles.

As reported, according to the information and analytical group AUTO-Consulting, in 2022, sales of new passenger cars fell by 61.3% to 40,000 cars.

At the same time, if the first and second places were also given to Toyota and Renault, then, according to AUTO-Consulting’s data, Volkswagen came in third (from the 9th year earlier) with a drop in sales by a quarter – to 3,080 cars.

"As a result, a large share of VW deliveries from the Chinese market, which has become a significant trend in 2022," the group’s website said in a statement.

And the number one premium brand is finally BMW, rising to 6th place in the rankings from 14th in 2021.
