Sausages should be recognized as perishable and made priority when crossing border – industry association

KYIV. May 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders has applied to the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food with a request to include certain sausage products (tariff heading 1601009190 and 1601009990) in the list of perishable goods that have priority when crossing the border, the business association has reported.

According to a report on the association’s website on Thursday, due to the lack of meat products in the list of perishable goods that have priority when crossing the border, export cargo has to wait in line for more than a week to leave Ukraine.

“This situation is forcing meat producers to abandon exports, while international trade in value-added goods is a priority for the country’s economy,” the industry association said.

According to meat processing operators, delays of goods with a limited shelf life in the general queue at the border reached a week or more. Exporting companies are forced to ensure uninterrupted cooling of products during the waiting period, causing a substantial increase of their transportation costs.

“This negatively affects the readiness of domestic producers of meat products to develop export trade and creates additional obstacles for Ukrainian products to enter foreign markets, slowing down economic growth,” the industry association said.

The inclusion of certain sausage products (tariff heading 1601009190 and 1601009990) in the list of perishable goods that have priority when crossing the border will contribute to the progress not only of individual export-oriented meat producers but of the entire domestic meat market, the association said.
