By KYIV. Oct 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the President, regarding the confiscation of frozen Russian assets.
“In October in Marrakech, the finance ministers of the G7 countries confirmed their commitment to keep Russian assets frozen until the Russian Federation compensates for the damage caused to our country. We are closely coordinating this work with the G7 states in order to attract such a resource for the restoration and development of Ukraine. The principle “Aggressor pays for destruction” should become key in the future security system and form the basis of the international compensation mechanism,” Shmyhal wrote on Telegram.
During the meeting, a report from the Ministry of Justice on progress in this matter was presented.
“We also have the support of a number of partners who are preparing appropriate decisions on confiscation in their countries. Our task is to direct all frozen Russian assets to the restoration of Ukraine,” the prime minister emphasized.
