KYIV. Nov 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal declares that the state has no plans to close promising mines.
“Ukraine is determined to implement a model of fair transformation of coal regions. In communities where mines have exhausted their resources, such a transformation should begin now,” Shmyhal wrote on Telegram, referring to his address to the participants of the founding meeting of the Association of Coal Communities within the framework of the event “Fair Transformation 2023.”
According to the prime minister, it is first important to give people an alternative in finding employment and providing for their families, and then decide the fate of certain mines.
“Work is already underway to test the Concept of Fair Transformation, in particular, in the Chervonohrad coal district of Lviv region. At the same time, the state is not going to close mines that have prospects and the ability to produce,” he emphasized.
Shmyhal noted that the government’s goal is to strengthen the state’s energy security and at the same time achieve European standards for a low-carbon economy.
