Shutdown of building materials factories inevitable if situation with power supply deteriorates – building materials producers' representative

KYIV. Dec 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – If prolonged and unpredictable power outages occur, manufacturers of building materials will be forced to shut down their enterprises completely, President of the Ukrainian Union of Building Materials Producers Konstantin Saliy has said.

"If there is no electricity for more than 12 hours a day, and the connections are outside the predicted schedules, then the enterprises will stop: no one will dare to lose expensive equipment. Ready-mixed concrete will not survive in containers for 3-4 hours – these are huge losses," Saliy told Interfax-Ukraine.

According to him, there are virtually no alternative energy sources for enterprises producing building materials with an energy intensity of more than 1 MW.

According to the President of the Union of Building Materials Producers, the decline in the production and consumption of building materials in Ukraine, which began with the start of the full-scale war, will continue until the start of the construction season in 2023. At the same time, he said that despite the sufficient supply of raw materials from producers, financial resources are practically exhausted.

"Financial resources are almost exhausted – in the spring of 2023, a wave of closures and sales of enterprises for debts may begin," Saliy said.
