Start of construction of subway to Troyeschyna, trolleybus lines to Brovary and Bucha announced for 2024-2025

KYIV. Nov 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The start of construction of the subway to Troyeschyna and trolleybus lines to Brovary and Bucha were announced in the City Target Program for Infrastructure Development of Kyiv for 2024-2025, according to a draft decision published on the Kyiv City Council website.

The total budget of this program is UAH 34.784 billion. At the same time, UAH 19.881 billion are expected to be provided from the Kyiv city’s budget, UAH 800 million from the state budget, and UAH 14.1 billion from other sources.

Projects planned for next year, according to the document, require funding of UAH 14.954 billion, including UAH 8.96 billion from the city budget and UAH 5.993 billion from other sources.

In 2025, the funding for the implementation of planned projects is UAH 19.83 billion, including UAH 800 million from the state budget, UAH 10.920 billion from the city treasury and UAH 8.109 billion from other sources.

The most famous long-term construction project in Kyiv, the Podilsky Bridge Crossing, should reach 88% of completion by the end of 2025, according to the target program. It is expected to earmark UAH 850 million in 2024 and UAH 950 million in 2025, with all UAH 1.8 billion coming from the city budget.

There are big plans for the program regarding the activation of subway development projects. For the construction of a section of the Syretsko-Pecherska subway line from the station Syrets for the Vinohradar residential area with an electric depot UAH 1.49 billion is provided for the next two years, of which UAH 640 million – in 2024 and UAH 850 million – in 2025.

The plan also outlines the construction of an exit from the Lvivska Brama station in 2025 for UAH 20 million from the local budget.

Arrangement of the Vokzalna station lobby to meet modern needs in 2024-2025 with the construction of a second exit will cost UAH 11 million. But to make one of the newest subway stations, Zhytomyrska, inclusive by 2025, the program provides 25 times more funding – UAH 278.6 million.

The plans for the development of the Kyiv city’s infrastructure also include the start of construction of the subway to Troyeschyna, namely the section of the Podilsko-Vyhurivska subway line from the Hlybochytska station to the Raiduzhna station – with a symbolic UAH 5 million in 2024 and UAH 20 million in 2025, which will allow, as indicated in the target program, to pass 10 meters by the end of the specified period.

For the construction of a section of the Obolonsko-Teremkivska subway line from the Exhibition Center station to Odeska Square UAH 46.8 million of city funds would be provided in 2025.

The authorities also promise to begin construction of trolleybus lines to Brovary and Hostomel, Irpin, Bucha, for which UAH 25 million are provided for each direction with the goal of achieving 2.5% of the project’s readiness by the end of 2025.

The budget for the reconstruction of the Bohatyrska/Poliarna street interchange reaches almost UAH 1.4 billion, of which UAH 579.2 million for 2024 and UAH 819.27 million for 2025. Another UAH 40 million in 2025 is planned for the Shuliavska interchange project.

It is proposed to pearmark UAH 14 million in 2025 for the development of documentation for transport modeling in Kyiv. At the same time, for the comprehensive reconstruction of the tram lines on Kontraktova Square over the next two years – UAH 280.5 million, for the reconstruction of the funicular building – UAH 355.9 million.

For 2024, it is proposed to build the Velyka Okruzhna section from Rokosovsky Avenue to Bohatyrska Street with the construction of a transport interchange (UAH 121.064 million from the city budget).

For the renewal of rolling stock over a two-year period, most of the provided funding will be disbursed within the framework of a targeted loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) under the Ukraine Urban Public Transport project. In particular, according to the program, UAH 989.8 million will be spent on the purchase of 85 buses, UAH 3 billion to buy 42 tram cars, UAH 2.77 billion to buy 74 trolleybuses and UAH 4.168 billion to purchase 48 new metro cars. Once again the cable car cabins will be updated – this time for UAH 486.7 million.

This draft decision of the Kyiv authorities is now under consideration by the relevant commissions of the city council.
