KYIV. Sept 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk addressed Speaker of the Slovak Parliament Boris Kollar with a request to understand what threat to the security of Ukraine the extension of the ban on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products poses.
“Dear Mr. Speaker Boris Kollar! Today, the media reported that you called on the Slovak government, together with Poland and Hungary, to extend the ban on imports of agricultural products from Ukraine after September 15. Dear Friend, I know for a fact that you are a real friend of Ukraine … That is why I appeal to you to understand that the introduction of such restrictions not only contradicts the requirements of the EU, but also poses a significant threat to Ukraine’s security,” Stefanchuk said on Twitter.
“For example, Russia once cut off a large part of our country’s exports after its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Therefore, the imposition of the above restrictions by our partner countries will not only be an unfriendly step, but will actually endanger Ukraine’s agricultural sector at the most difficult time. After all, it is with the money we receive from the sale of our grain that we finance our army, and thus our common Victory,” he said.
“Therefore, dear friend, I ask for your support and every effort to help Ukraine in this most difficult time. Now is the time for unity, not disputes,” he added.
As reported, Kollar appealed to the head of government with a demand, after the expiration of the European Union embargo in September, to join the closure of the borders by Poland and Hungary for the import of Ukrainian grain, fearing its influx and the risk of price increases. At the same time, he stressed that the matter did not concern the termination of transit.
