Swedish PM: There is agreement in spring to give Ukraine's oral assessment on joining EU, formal one expected in autumn

KIRUNA (SWEDEN). Jan 13 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Prime Minister of the Swedish Presidency of the European Union Ulf Kristersson says the first oral assessment of Ukraine’s fulfillment of the conditions as a candidate country for the European Union will be given this spring, and the main, formal one – in the autumn.

He made such an explanation at a press conference in Kiruna on Friday, answering a question from Interfax-Ukraine about the approach of the Swedish Presidency of the European Council to Ukraine as a candidate country.

Kristersson said Ukraine knows, as does the European Commission and other European countries, that Sweden is committed to Ukraine eventually becoming an EU country, in accordance with the rules that exist for this. He said they are also impressed with the work that Ukraine is doing. In order to report to European Council how things are going, there is an agreement for an oral report in the spring and a formal assessment in the autumn, Kristersson said.

At the same time, he believes that in Ukraine the work is being done in the right order. The Ukrainian government is working on all the reforms, Swedish Prime Minister said.
