KYIV. Nov 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A service center for unmanned Swiss mine clearance vehicles from Global Clearance Solutions (GCS) has opened in Ukraine, according to the company’s website.
According to the report, the service center will operate in Kyiv. It will advise Ukrainian specialists and help them with the maintenance and repair of GCS-200 and GCS-100 demining machines, which are used by the State Emergency Service and Nibulon agricultural holding.
“Our workshop is able to accommodate several GCS-200 machines, which are ideally suited to eliminating explosive threats for agricultural land and ensuring infrastructure such as electricity pylons can be repaired and essential power restored to civilians. There is also space for the smaller GCS-100,” said Fabian Klauser, Head of Service and Maintenance.
According to GCS, previously the repair of mine clearance machines was carried out by company specialists using a mobile workshop. In one day, one remotely controlled GCS-200 can clear an area the size of a football field from explosive ordnance.
As reported, Nibulon received the first such platform in early October 2023. A total of four such machines have been ordered for the company. This project is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German State Development Bank (KfW DEG).
In addition, two vehicles from Canada were transferred to the State Emergency Service.
The GCS management announced its intention to supply about 20 mine clearance vehicles to Ukraine within a year.
