Switzerland extends protection for refugees from Ukraine until spring of 2025, intends to employ 40% of them – govt

KYIV. Nov 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – S protection status for immigrants from Ukraine seeking protection will not be canceled until March 4, 2025, since no lasting stabilization of the situation in Ukraine is expected, according to the Swiss government website.

The Federal Council made the corresponding decision at its meeting on November 1. It also determined for the first time that 40% of working-age people with S status should be employed by the end of 2024, the report said.

“Promoting labour market integration not only serves to reduce social welfare costs. Through integration measures, education and gainful employment, Ukrainian refugees can and should also be socially integrated and maintain and develop their skills with a view to returning home in the future,” the message says.

The Swiss Federal Council activated S protection status for immigrants from Ukraine on March 12, 2022. As of the end of October 2023, about 66,000 immigrants from Ukraine had this status.
