By KYIV. Dec 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Municipal enterprise Odesamiskelektrotrans on December 16 signed an agreement with a consortium chaired by Tatra-Yug LLC (Odesa) for the supply of 13 low-floor three-section tramcars with funding from the European Investment Bank (EIB).
"This is the first contract for the supply of trams signed since the start of a full-scale war. We are sincerely grateful to all parties and participants in the project for their hard and courageous work to upgrade the rolling stock and infrastructure," the Tatra-Yug website says.
According to the website of Odesa City Council, in addition to Tatra-Yug, the consortium also includes a company with a single founder – Turkish-based Rosemary Gida Dis Tigaret LTD Sirketi (it is engaged in the export-import of food products, and according to the state register, owns Odesa-based Ukrzernoprodukt in Ukraine).
The subproject North-South Mainline Tram Route in Odesa was signed in the presence of the city council leaders and representatives of Ukreximbank.
As reported, a tender for the supply of tram cars (it was supposed to be 12 units) was announced back in July 2021 as part of the EIB-funded Ukraine Urban Public Transport project.
This tender has become a repeat one, as the first one, for a loan of EUR20 million, for which it was planned to buy 14 trams, was canceled at the end of 2020 due to non-compliance with EIB criteria. Applications for it were submitted by Tatra-Yug, Electron concern and the Chinese corporation CRRC.
