KYIV. Oct 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Uhryniv-Dołhobyczów border crossing point can be opened for the passage of only trucks, redirecting cars to other points on the border, Deputy Chief of Staff, Head of the Border Control Organization Department of the Western Regional Directorate Headquarters Ihor Matviychuk said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
“As an option, the Ukrainian side wants to invite their Polish colleagues to consider a joint border crossing point Uhryniv-Dołhobyczów for the passage of exclusively freight transport. However, for this we need to find where to redirect cars,” Matviychuk said.
He said that the nearest border crossing points are located in Rava-Ruska (at a distance of 90 km) and Ustyluh (at a distance of 60 km).
According to Matviychuk, this would increase the capacity of the Uhryniv-Dołhobyczów border crossing point and reduce the queue of vehicles with cargo.
It was expected that the issue would be considered at the next meeting of the commission on border crossing points and border infrastructure of the Polish-Ukrainian Inter-governmental Coordinating Council for Interregional Cooperation. At this meeting it was planned to consider both the state of existing road and railway border crossing points, as well as promising ones. But the meeting did not take place, and a new date for its holding is now being discussed.
