KYIV. Nov 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine has ratified an agreement with the European Union on participation in the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program and can now receive grant support from the European Commission (EC) for the modernization of checkpoints at the border, the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development said on Facebook.
According to the message, Ukraine has become a full participant in the EU program Connecting Europe Facility: the Verkhovna Rada ratified the agreement between Ukraine and the European Union on participation in the program.
The document itself was signed in June 2023 in Lviv as part of a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister of Restoration of Ukraine – Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development Oleksandr Kubrakov and European Commissioner for Transport Adina Valean.
The department clarifies that during the implementation of this program, the emphasis will be on the implementation of infrastructure projects to modernize railway and road checkpoints across the state border with Poland, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia, which have already received approval from the EC.
The total amount of the grant for the modernization of all checkpoints is more than EUR 82 million.
As the press service notes, the CEF program operates within the Solidarity Lanes initiative. Its implementation will help improve transport links between Ukraine and the European Union and establish Ukrainian exports to European countries as a whole. In particular, thanks to participation in the program, Ukraine will be able to attract EU funding to support the development of trans-European networks of transport, energy and digital services.
The Verkhovna Rada supported the draft law on the ratification of the agreement between Ukraine, on the one hand, and the European Union, on the other hand, on Ukraine’s participation in the EU program Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) on Tuesday, November 22. Some 332 MPs voted for the document.
