Ukraine cuts coal imports by 71.5% in Jan-Oct

KYIV. Nov 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – In January-October 2022, Ukraine reduced the import of hard coal and anthracite (HS code 2701) by 71.5% (by 11.482 million tonnes) compared to the same period in 2021, to 4.548 million tonnes.

According to the State Customs Service, coal was imported for $1.13 billion, which is 35.1% less than in January-October 2021 ($1.741 billion).

Coal came from the Russian Federation for $431.082 million (pre-war supplies, share in imports 38.13%), the United States for $309.178 million (27.35%), Australia for $153.619 million (13.59%), and other countries for $236.541 million (20.93%).

Export of coal by Ukraine in January-October 2022 amounted to 634,170 tonnes for $193.957 million, including to Slovakia for $116.529 million, Poland for $47.574 million, Hungary for $27.289 million, other countries for $2.565 million. In January-October 2021, exports amounted to 4,982 tonnes for $0.801 million.
