Ukraine cuts coke output by 58% in Jan-Nov 2022

KYIV. Jan 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – In January-November of the current year, Ukrainian Coke and Chemical Plants reduced the production of gross coke of 6% moisture by 58.1% compared to the same period last year, to 3.66 million tonnes.

As Anatoliy Starovoit, Director General of the Ukrkoks association of coking enterprises (Dnipro), told Interfax-Ukraine, 235,000 tonnes of gross coke were produced in November, including 204,000 tonnes of metallurgical coke.

According to him, in January-November 2022, the production of metallurgical coke amounted to 3.14 million tonnes.

Currently Yuzhkoks, Kamet Steel, DMZ (Dniprokoks), Zaporizhkoks and coke production at ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih are operating.

The director general also said that in January-November 2022, 4.254 million tonnes of coal concentrate were supplied to domestic coke plants (in January-November 2021 it was 11.834 million tonnes), including 2.853 million tonnes of Ukrainian production, 623,000 tonnes were imported from the Russian Federation (before the war), 65,400 tonnes from Kazakhstan (before the war), 36.3 thousand tonnes from Poland, 38,800 tonnes from the Czech Republic, 448,600 tonnes from the United States and 187,300 tonnes from Australia. Including in November a total of 308,000 tonnes of concentrate were delivered, of which 299,000 tonnes were made in Ukraine.

As reported, Ukraine in 2021 reduced the production of coke by 1.3% compared to 2020, to 9.543 million tonnes.
