KYIV. Oct 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine exported 41,000 tonnes of new crop barley, thanks to the intensification of the work of Odesa ports, but the main demand is demonstrated by the domestic market. This was discussed on October 24 during a weekly briefing, according to the Start analytical cooperative created within the framework of the Ukrainian Agrarian Council (UAC).
“Export demand for barley has intensified. In Odesa, there is a demand for certified barley for supply to China at a price of about $118-120 per tonne. Such prices are announced with delivery to Odesa before November 10. As of November, 50,000 tonnes of barley have already been sold with delivery to China. Therefore, we can expect further movement of grain through Odesa ports. There will not be a big increase in prices, but prices could rise by $5 per tonne,” the experts said.
According to their information, the Danube ports do not yet trade barley. Although the indicative price is $125-130 per tonne, there is no real movement. The highest liquidity is recorded on the western borders (WB) – $135-140 per tonne on DAP terms, but demand in this direction is low.
“The main demand is focused on the domestic market, the main buyers of barley are processing plants. While purchase prices are at the level of UAH 4,500-4,800 per tonne, significant changes are not expected in the coming weeks,” the UAC said.
