Ukraine harvests 29.5 mln tonnes of grain, 5.7 mln tonnes of oil crops

KYIV. Sept 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian farmers harvested 29.5 million tonnes of grains and grain legumes and 5.7 million tonnes of oil crops as of mid-September, Ukraine’s Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry has reported.

Grains and grain legumes were harvested from 6.76 million hectares at a yield of 4.36 tonnes per ha.

The country has so far harvested 5.823 million tonnes of barley from 1.504 million ha; 22.151 million tonnes of wheat from 4.69 million ha; 386,600 tonnes of peas from 154,000 ha; 109,400 tonnes of millet from 47,400 ha; 100,200 tonnes of buckwheat from 70,000 ha; 55,800 tonnes of corn from 11,900 ha; and 831,000 tonnes of other grains and grain legumes from 286,000 ha.

The oil crop harvest is continuing. Farmers have brought in 4 million tonnes of rapeseed from 1.395 million ha, 1.035 million tonnes of sunflower seed from 498,600 ha and 624,800 tonnes of soybean from 257,000 ha.

Yields last week remained at the previous week’s levels of 4.72 tonnes per ha for wheat, 2.5 tonnes per ha for peas, 3.87 tonnes per ha for barley and 2.87 tonnes per ha for rapeseed. Yields were at 2.31 tonnes per ha for millet (2.38 tonnes per ha a week earlier); 1.44 tonnes per ha for buckwheat (1.42 tonnes per ha); 4.7 tonnes per ha for corn (3.0 tonnes per ha); 2.08 tonnes per ha for sunflower seeds; and 2.43 tonnes per ha for soybean (2.57 tonnes per ha).

Farmers also harvested 617,100 tonnes of sugar beet from 14,100 ha at a yield of 43.68 tonnes per ha.

The Agrarian Policy Ministry’s updated forecast sees Ukraine harvesting 20.9 million tonnes of wheat, 5.8 million tonnes of barley and 28.1 million tonnes of corn in 2023. The gross oil crop harvest is expected to total 20.3 million tonnes, including 12 million tonnes of sunflower seeds, 4 million tonnes of rapeseeds and 4.2 million tonnes of soybeans, while the sugar beet harvest forecast at 13.7 million tonnes.
