KYIV. Oct 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – By October 28, Ukrainian farmers harvested 48.81 million tonnes of main agricultural crops from a total area of 13.13 million hectares, while for the period October 21-28 they collected 4.71 million tonnes from 1.13 million hectares, according to website of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food on Friday.
The report states that in a week the total area of farmland from which the crop was harvested increased by 3%, up to 70% of the previously planned area.
In terms of crops, the harvesting of wheat, barley, peas and rapeseed has been completed. Millet harvested from 95% (2 percentage points more for the week), buckwheat from 93% (5 p.p. more), sunflower from 80% (12 p.p. more), soybeans from 72% (20 p.p. more), sugar beet from 59% (10 p.p. more), corn from 20% (8 p.p. more).
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the final harvest of wheat this season amounted to 19.2 million tonnes from 4.7 million hectares, barley from 5.5 million tonnes from 1.6 million hectares, rapeseed from 3.1 million tonnes from 1.96 million hectares, peas from 261,000 tonnes from 111,500 hectares.
In addition, by October 28, a total of 8.2 million tonnes of sunflower (1.2 million tonnes more per week) was harvested from 3.7 million hectares (500,000 hectares more), 5.2 million tonnes of sugar beet (1 million tonnes more) from 105,000 hectares (16,000 hectares more), 4.5 million tonnes of corn (1.8 million tonnes more) from 832,000 hectares (304,000 hectares more), 2.6 million tons of soybeans (500,000 tonnes more) from 1.1 million hectares (300,000 hectares more), 149,000 tonnes of buckwheat more (8,000 tonnes more) from 109,000 hectares (5,000 hectares more), and also 98,000 tonnes of millet (1,000 tonnes more) from 42,000 hectares (unchanged).
According to the ministry, the average yield for all crops in the current season was 39.1 centners per hectare, including corn some 53.7 centners per hectare, wheat some 41.2 centners per hectare, barley some 35.1 centners per hectare, rape some 28.9 centners per hectare, soybeans some 23.6 centners per hectare, peas some 23.4 centners per hectare, millet some 23.2 centners per hectare, sunflower some 21.9 centners per hectare, buckwheat some 13.6 centners per hectare, sugar beet some 489 centners per hectare.
