Ukraine increases copper imports by 68.5%, cuts exports by one-third in Jan-April

KYIV. May 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian enterprises in January-April this year increased imports of copper and copper products in value terms by 68.5% compared to the same period last year, to $37.492 million.

According to customs statistics released by the State Customs Service of Ukraine, exports of copper and copper products over the specified period fell by 32.9% to $27.302 million.

In April, copper was imported for $8.981 million, and exported for $5.480 million.

In addition, in the first four months of 2023, Ukraine reduced imports of nickel and products from it by 81.8% compared to the same period in 2022, to $5.299 million (in April, it was $2.122 million), increased aluminum and products from it by 18.7%, to $108.035 million (respectively $25.924 million). At the same time, it halved the import of lead and products from it to $471,000 ($255,000), the import of tin and products from it fell by 16.1%, to $805,000 ($158,000), and also zinc and zinc products by 37%, to $10.769 million ($3.071 million).

Export of aluminum and products from it in January-April of the current year grew by 5.7% compared to the same period a year earlier, to $31.429 million (in April, it was $8.326 million), lead and products from it dropped by 28%, to $5.470 million ($1.034 million), nickel and products reached $104,000 ($11,000), while in January-April 2022 it was $976,000.

Zinc for $48,000 was delivered abroad in the first four months (in April, it was $2,000) versus $1.023 million in January-April 2022. The export of tin and products came to $48,000 (no tin and products were exported in April) versus $257,000 in the same period a year earlier.
