Ukraine on Thursday takes emergency assistance from Romania due to electricity shortage – Ukrenergo

KYIV. Nov 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine on Thursday, at the request of NPC Ukrenergo, attracted emergency assistance from Romania with a total volume of 1,200 MWh, the company reported.

“Reasons: consumption increased due to cold weather and caused additional load on power plants, which in turn led to the shutdown and emergency repair of several units. The volume of imported electricity available on the market was not enough to replace the entire volume of electricity underproduced by the shutdown units,” the company clarified.

The evening maximum electricity consumption on November 23 was 1.5% higher than on November 23. For the energy system, this is equal to the need to switch on at least one additional unit of thermal power plants, the production capacity of which is limited due to repairs.

The company notes that on November 24, the situation at the power plants remains difficult: one of the units returned to operation after repairs, but emergency repairs continue at several.

At the same time, warming has reduced consumption levels, and the electricity generated is sufficient to cover it. The morning maximum on November 24 is 6.5% less than this figure on November 23, but forecasters warn of a new wave of cold temperatures as early as Sunday.

Due to bad weather, 167 settlements in eight regions were cut off. Due to hostilities and other reasons, 477 settlements remain without electricity.
