Ukraine reduces steel output by 80.1%, ranking 31st in Worldsteel rating in Oct 2022

KYIV. Nov 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine in October this year reduced steel production by five times, or by 80.1%, compared to the same period in 2021, to 318,000 tonnes, ranking 31st in the ranking of 64 major world manufacturers of these products, compiled by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel).

According to Worldsteel data, in October 2022, a decrease in steel production was recorded from October 2021 in most countries of the top ten, except for China, India and Iran.

The top ten steel producing countries in October are as follows: China (79.760 million tonnes, an increase of 11% compared to October 2021), India (10.451 million tonnes, an increase of 2.7%), Japan (7.349 million tonnes, minus 10.6%), the U.S. (6.724 million tonnes, less by 8.9%), the Russian Federation (5.830 million tonnes, minus 11.5%), South Korea (5.083 million tonnes, minus 12.1%), Germany (3.142 million tonnes, minus 14.4%), Iran (2.873 million tonnes, an increase of 3.5%), Turkey (2.870 million tonnes, down 17.8%), and Brazil (2.835 million tonnes, minus 4.5%).

According to the results of October, Ukraine is in the 31st position with 318,000 tonnes of steel (less by 80.1% from October 2021). In September this year, the country produced 340,000 tonnes of steel, in August – 366,000 tonnes of steel, in July – 281,000 tonnes of steel, in June – 295,000 tonnes, in May – 308,000 tonnes, in April – 281,000 tonnes, in March – 200,000 tonnes, in February – 1.374 million tonnes, in January – 1.851 million tonnes.

In general, in October this year, steel production in the world was at the level of the same period last year – 147.327 million tonnes.

Ukraine, following the results of the ten months of this year, retained the 22nd place with the production of 5.844 million tonnes of steel (down 67.4%).
