KYIV. Nov 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine has achieved excellent progress on its path to EU membership, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen has said during a joint press conference with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Saturday.
She praised Ukraine’s excellent progress and said the European Commission will confirm this in its enlargement report next week.
According to von der Leyen, the European Commission was impressed by the reforms that are being implemented in the midst of the war. Ukraine is reforming its justice system, fighting against influence of the oligarchs, combating money laundry, she said.
The President of the European Commission expressed confidence that Ukraine will achieve its ambitious goal of passing to the next stage of the EU accession process.
The European Commission is working on the allocation of additional EUR 50 billion to support Ukraine, von der Leyen recalled.
She also said that more than 65% of Ukraine’s agricultural products are via the solidarity routes. The EU invests in the strengthening of these routes, von der Leyen said, adding that EUR 12 million was invested last year and this amount should be increased.
According to von der Leyen, European sanctions have a profound impact on the Russian economy. She also announced that the 12th package of sanctions will be approved soon. It will consist new lists of those responsible for military trade and occupation of Ukraine as well as those responsible for the abduction of Ukrainian children, creation of fake news, circumvention of import and export bands, and violation of the Russian oil price cap.
