KYIV. Nov 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine in October of this year increased steel production by 79.62% compared to the same period last year – to 571,000 tonnes from 318,000 tonnes.
At the same time, Ukraine took 22nd place in the ranking of 71 countries – global producers of these products, compiled by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel).
According to Worldsteel, in October 2023, an increase in steel production was recorded compared to September 2022 in most countries of the top ten, except China, Germany and Brazil.
The top ten steel-producing countries at the end of October are as follows: China (79.090 million tonnes, a decrease of 1.8% compared to October 2022), India (12.059 million tonnes, 15.1% more), Japan (7.524 million tonnes, 2.6% more), the USA (6.832 million tonnes, 3.4% more), Russia (6.3 million tonnes, 9.5% more), South Korea (5.487 million tonnes, more by 6.5%), Iran (3.075 million tonnes, 3.5% more), Turkey (2.965 million tonnes, 4.2% more), Germany (2.876 million tonnes, less by 8.8%) and Brazil (2.610 million tonnes, less by 10.2%).
In general, in October of this year, steel production increased by 0.6% compared to the same period last year, to 150.026 million tonnes.
For 10 months of 2023, the top ten steel producing countries are as follows: China (874.7 million tonnes, an increase of 1.4%), India (116.270 million tonnes, an increase of 12.1%), Japan (72.919 million tonnes , a drop of 3%), the USA (67.437 million tonnes, 0.8% less), Russia (63.491 million tonnes, 5.3% more), South Korea (55.912 million tonnes, 0.2% more), Germany (30.107 million tonnes, 4.1% less), Turkey (27.454 million tonnes, 8.8% less), Brazil (26.474 million tonnes, less by 8.6%) and Iran (25.144 million tonnes, 0.1% less).
In total, in January-October, 71 countries produced 1.6 billion tonnes of steel, which is 0.2% more than in the same period in 2022.
At the same time, Ukraine produced 5.162 million tonnes of steel in 10 months of 2023, which is 11.7% lower than the volumes for January-October 2022. The country is in 23rd place based on the results of 10 months in 2023.
