By KYIV. Dec 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine has asked all partner countries to help in the purchase of 1,125 electricity generators for the agricultural sector, while confirmation has been received from Germany on the provision of 25 generators.
This was stated by Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy Markiyan Dmytrasevych during a round table entitled "Urgent needs of the Ukrainian agricultural sector for sustainability and recovery," organized with the support of the EU and the World Bank.
According to the expert, the ministry is simultaneously negotiating with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
"Everyone felt the consequences of the blackout. In the agricultural sector, livestock breeding and processing farms suffer the most. We are working to cover at least part of the need for 1,125 generators," the deputy minister said.
Earlier, Yuriy Duchenko, the First Vice President of the All-Ukrainian Association of Bakers and Director of Kyiv Khlib LLC (the Kyivkhlib brand), told Interfax-Ukraine that Ukrainian bakers, together with the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, had submitted an application to international partners to provide generators, the equipment could be delivered to Ukraine within one or two months.
According to him, industrial generators allow for a short time to ensure the operation of bakeries in emergency mode, but such a solution does not allow to fully "power" the production. In addition, the electricity they produce costs three to four times more than electricity from the grid.
