Ukrainian farmers have 40% of area with corn left for harvesting – Ministry of Agrarian Policy

KYIV. Dec 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – As of December 2, Ukrainian farmers harvested 66.32 million tonnes of major agricultural crops from a total area of 16.28 million hectares, while for the period November 25 through December 2, 2.5 million tonnes were harvested from 0.4 million hectares, in including15.5 million tonnes of corn from 2.5 million hectares (60% of the sown area).

As reported on the website of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food on Friday, during the week the total area of agricultural land from which crops were harvested grew by 3 percentage points (p.p.), to 85% of the previously planned area.

In terms of crops, the harvesting of wheat, barley, peas and rapeseed has been completed. During the week, the volumes of harvested buckwheat did not change (98%), but increased by 1 p.p. for soybean, to 98%, sunflower – to 97%, millet – to 96%, by 4 p.p. for sugar beet – to 97%, by 7 p.p. for corn – to 60%.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the final harvest of wheat this season amounted to 19.4 million tonnes from 4.7 million hectares, barley – 5.6 million tonnes from 1.6 million hectares, rapeseed – 3.2 million tonnes from 1.1 million hectares, peas – 261,000 tonnes from 111,000 hectares.

In addition, by December 2, a total of 15.5 million tonnes of corn (2 million tonnes more in a week) were harvested from 2.5 million hectares (300,000 ha more), 9.9 million tonnes of sunflower (100,000 tonnes more) from 4.6 million hectares 10,000 hectares more), 8.6 million tonnes of sugar beet (400,000 tonnes) from 174,000 hectares (8,000 hectares more), 3.6 million tonnes of soybeans from 1.5 million hectares (unchanged), 157,000 tonnes of buckwheat (1,000 tonnes more) from 115,000 ha (unchanged), and 100,000 tonnes of millet (2,000 tonnes more) from 42,900 ha (300 ha more).

According to the ministry, the average yield for all crops in the current season was 4.44 tonnes per ha, including corn – 6.13 tonnes per ha, wheat – 4.12 tonnes per ha, barley – 3.51 tonnes per ha, rape – 2.89 tonnes per ha, soybeans – 2.42 tonnes per ha, peas – 2.34 tonnes per ha, millet – 2.32 tonnes per ha, sunflower – 2.17 tonnes per ha, buckwheat – 1.36 tonnes per ha, sugar beet – 49.8 tonnes per ha.

Farmers of Mykolaiv and Odesa regions have completed the harvest of all crops. More grains and leguminous crops were harvested in Vinnitsa region – 3.7 million tonnes, followed by Kirovohrad (3.4 million tonnes) and Dnipropetrovsk (3 million tonnes) regions.
