Ukrainian NPPs operating again with all nine controlled reactors – Energoatom

KYIV. Dec 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) – All nine nuclear reactors located in the territory controlled by Ukraine, as of 18:00 Saturday, started working in the power system, National Nuclear Generating Company Energoatom, the operator of the nuclear power plant, said in its Telegram channel.

"Unfortunately, now the capacity of one of the power units is limited to 600 MW due to the unavailability of the power system to accept the entire possible amount of electricity from it, since energy infrastructure facilities were again damaged as a result of yesterday’s [December 16] shelling," Energoatom said.

The company recalled that six more power units of the occupied Zaporizhia NPP were stopped, and their connection is blocked by "Russians," while the plant continues to constantly consume about 100 MW for its own needs from the power system of Ukraine.

As reported, after the shelling on November 23, all power units of Ukrainian nuclear power plants were disconnected from the network. On December 13, after a refurbishment, the ninth power unit with a capacity of 1000 MW was connected to the power grid, and all nine power units of the Pivdennoukrainska, Rivne and Khmelnytsky nuclear power plants, which are located on the territory controlled by Ukraine, were in operation on the morning of December 16, during the new massive Russian shelling.

Vice-President of Energoatom Jacob Hartmut said that the attacks on December 16 led to the fact that the total operating capacity of controlled nuclear power plants decreased from 7,000 MW to 1,500 MW.

In total, there are four operating Ukrainian NPPs in Ukraine, including 15 power units equipped with water-cooled power reactors with a total installed electrical capacity of 13.835 GW. In addition to ZNPP with six units of 1000 MW, these are Rivne NPP (four power units – two of 1000 MW and two of 440 MW), Pivdennoukrainska NPP (three power units of 1000 MW) and Khmelnytsky NPP (two power units of 1000 MW).
