Ukrainian pork processors study EU regulations to launch exports in 2023 – profile association

KYIV. Dec 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Some Ukrainian producers and processors of pork are going to start exporting it to the EU next year, for this they study the relevant European regulations and prepare for unofficial audits for compliance of their products with export requirements.

At the moment, four Ukrainian enterprises of the industry are interested in launching pork exports to Europe, according to the website of Association of Pig Breeders of Ukraine on Thursday.

"We have been working with experts and the veterinary service to ensure that draft questionnaires are ready in advance for enterprises that want to check how they meet the requirements of EU regulations. A number of processors interested in exporting pork have studied these questionnaires to assess that they need to be polished to prove their compliance with the regulations," the organization quotes its president, Oksana Yurchenko.

According to her, in the EU "there is a certain understanding" that certain indulgences for Ukrainian pig products may be introduced next year, which was not even discussed much before the full-scale Russian aggression.

"Next year, in cooperation with international organizations, we will initiate informal audits to support such manufacturers. Now there are four enterprises," Yurchenko said.

According to the association, the EU will open up for the export of Ukrainian pork during up to two years, and this is not a pessimistic scenario.

In turn, the industry is moving ahead with official approvals of international certificates for the export of pork to Vietnam and Hong Kong, but so far this is not very relevant, because the sea routes are closed due to the aggression of the Russian Federation, and other logistics for producers are financially inexpedient.
