Ukrenergo asks to increase limit of electricity imports from EU by 2-3 times

KYIV. Nov 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine, in the face of Russian shelling its energy infrastructure, would like to have the potential to import a significant amount of electricity from the EU – 1000-1500 MW, Head of NPC Ukrenergo Volodymyr Kudrytsky said at a meeting with EU Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson.

"Currently, 500 MW is the upper limit for electricity imports from Europe to Ukraine. We would like this volume to be much larger – about 1000-1500 MW," he said, commenting on the results of the meeting at the National Telethon.

According to him, with such an increase in the limit, Ukraine could potentially, if necessary, import electricity from European countries.

Kudrytsky also said that Ukraine needs help to replace substation equipment damaged by Russian shelling, so he asked for coordination of such assistance from the European Union.

The head of Ukrenergo said that EU Commissioner Simson was one of the key figures who helped unite the Ukrainian power system with the European one in March 2022.
