Ukrenergo chief: narratives about electricity exports from Ukraine designed to divert attention from real culprit of electricity consumption restrictions that is Russia

KYIV. Dec 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Fake information about the export of Ukrainian electricity after October 11 is dispersed in the media space at the suggestion of the Russian Federation to divert attention from the fact that it is the aggressor country that is the cause of electricity restrictions in Ukraine, Board Chairman of NPC Ukrenergo Volodymyr Kudrytsky has said.

"Ukraine has not exported electricity since October 11. Period. When these fakes are dispersed, we believe that this is a Russian IPSO. These narratives are designed to divert attention from one simple fact: we now have a limitation in electricity consumption throughout the country, not because someone then it exports it, not because someone is slowly repairing it, but because we have a massive Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian power system almost every week," he said at a briefing at the Ukraine-Ukrinform media center in Kyiv on Friday.

He drew attention to the fact that Ukrenergo does not even distribute access to interstate power lines for export.

At the same time, he urged not to confuse commercial exports with technical electricity flows that occur between interconnected power systems.

"Electricity, unfortunately, is not aware that there are borders between states. When power systems are interconnected, like Ukrainian, Moldovan, Romanian, Hungarian, Slovak and Polish, there are so-called technical flows. As a rule, they are very small, tens of MW, but the balance is always close to zero," the head of the national energy company said.

He also said that there are also ring flows, the volumes of which can be larger.

"For example, in Romania, in the south of the country, renewable energy generation is quite developed, but the connections between the south and north of Romania are weak, and in order for electricity to reach from south to north, it must pass through the territory of Moldova, Ukraine, Hungary and get back to Romania This is like an example of the route that electricity travels in the united Ukrainian-European system," Kudrytsky said, describing the situation.

According to him, it is obvious that in such a situation, how much electricity got into Ukraine, so much returned.

"In the Ukrainian power system, electricity is not getting smaller, and all the electrical energy generated by Ukrainian plants remains in Ukraine," the head of Ukrenergo said.
