Ukrenergo due to cold and wind extends electricity consumption limits for whole day on Jan 10

KYIV. Jan 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – As of 10:00 on Tuesday, electricity consumption in Ukraine has increased due to low temperatures, exacerbated by strong winds in most regions, Ukrenergo reported.

According to the company’s daily social media update, industry and business consumption, which is typical for the working day, has also increased.

Ukrenergo noted that as a result of these factors, the shortage of power has increased, including at night.

"In order to ensure a balance in the energy system, the regions have been informed about consumption limits, which are valid throughout the day – from 00:00 to 24:00," the company said on Telegram.

As reported, on Monday the limits were not in effect in the first four hours of the day, on Sunday – in the first nine hours.

At the same time, the company noted that in many regions the limits have already been exceeded, therefore, emergency shutdowns are used to maintain stable operation of the power system.

Also, in some regions, due to unfavorable weather conditions (gusty wind), there are damages in the networks of distribution system operators, repair work is underway, Ukrenergo described the situation.

In addition, in the frontline regions in the east and south, the situation with electricity supply remains difficult due to significant damage to the electricity grid due to the high activity of hostilities.

Ukrenergo once again stressed that so far the energy system is not able to cover consumption in full due to the damage and occupation by the enemy of a number of power plants, including Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, whose capacity would fully cover the need for electricity.
