KYIV. Nov 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrzaliznytsia increased the transportation of goods by rail in October to 12.06 million tonnes, which is 0.38 million tonnes, or 3.3% more than in September, Deputy Director of the Department of Commercial Work of Ukrzaliznytsia Valeriy Tkachev said at a meeting with industry participants on Wednesday.
"In particular, 5.2 million tonnes were transported in export traffic (0.137 million tonnes, or 0.3% less compared with September 2022). From March to October 2022, the monthly volume of cargo transportation by rail grew from 8.299 million tonnes to 12.06 million tonnes per month (an increase by 3.7 million tonnes per month or 45.3%) But this monthly traffic volume, unfortunately, is much less than the pre-war level," Tkachev said on Facebook.
According to him, the transportation of grain cargo in October grew to 3.6 million tonnes (197,800 tonnes, or 5.8% more), cement rose to 288,600 tonnes (21,900 tonnes, or 8.2% more), coal to 2.2 million tonnes (18,700 tonnes, or 0.8% more), mineral and construction materials to 1.9 million tonnes (85,600 tonnes, or 4.6% more).
At the same time, transportation of iron/manganese ore fell to 1.4 million tonnes (64,400 tonnes, or 4.3% less), and ferrous metals – to 628,500 tonnes (63,800 tonnes, or 9.2% less), said the representative of Ukrzaliznytsia.
He also said that in October the queue of wagons in the direction of the western border crossings fell by 1,674 wagons, or 9%: from 18,299 to 16,600 at the beginning of November.
At the same time, according to Tkachev, the volume of orders at almost all border crossings significantly exceeds their capacity, so the Center for Transport Logistics (CTL) is forced to apply reduction factors to coordinate all orders received from exporters.
"Currently, all orders received from exporters by the 20th day of the month preceding transportation have been processed by the CTL and partially agreed upon by foreign carriers and JSC Ukrzaliznytsia," Tkachev added.
In addition, some foreign carriers have temporarily suspended the coordination of orders due to the presence of a large queue of loaded wagons, the deputy director said.
