KYIV. Nov 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Negotiations with Poland regarding the unblocking of border checkpoints for heavy vehicles are complicated by the fact that a new Polish government has not yet been formed following the results of the recent elections, President of the Association of International Road Carriers of Ukraine (ASMAP) Leonid Kostiuchenko said.
“When there is a government, then we will talk to you,” he described the position of the Polish side in the negotiations during a national telethon on Friday.
According to Kostiuchenko, today there are already about 3,000 cars at four blocked checkpoints that cannot leave Poland, starting on November 6.
“The more we communicate with them, the less hope we have. I personally spoke with the leader of the protest, and he is determined to continue to strike: “You will also celebrate the New Year in line,” Kostiuchenko said.
The ASMAP president said the association turned for help to the European Commission and the World Road Transport Union, which acted on the side of Ukraine.
He said the main demand of Polish protesters for the restoration of transportation permits contradicts the decision of the European Union, so this issue is beyond the competence of the association and the Ministry of Reconstruction of Ukraine.
The day before, Deputy Head of the Reconstruction Ministry Serhiy Derkach also announced the need to wait for the appointment of the new Polish government led by Donald Tusk to solve the problem.
