USDA in Dec increases estimate of corn exports from Ukraine by 2 mln tonnes, wheat by 1.5 mln tonnes

KYIV. Dec 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in its December report increased the forecast for corn exports from Ukraine in the 2022/2023 marketing year (July-June) by 2 million tonnes compared to November data, to 17.5 million tonnes, while the forecast of its harvest is reduced by 4.5 million tonnes, to 27 million tonnes.

"Ukraine corn production is sharply lower with reductions to both area and yield as the ongoing conflict and record-setting autumn rainfall have delayed the harvest in key producing regions of Poltava, Sumy, and Cherkasy," the USDA said in a report on its website last week.

At the same time, the estimate of domestic corn consumption in Ukraine in 2022/23 has been reduced by 3 million tonnes to 6.5 million tonnes.

In general, the forecast for the export of coarse grains in Ukraine for 2022/23 was raised by 2 million tonnes, to 19.93 million tonnes, and its production has been reduced by 4 million tonnes, to 34.96 million tonnes.

Also, in the December report, the USDA increased the forecast for the export of wheat in Ukraine in 2022/23 by 1.5 million tonnes, to 12.5 million tonnes from 11 million tonnes, and the estimate of its harvest was kept at the level of 20.5 million tonnes, and domestic consumption was reduced by 1 million tonnes to 4.5 million tonnes.
