KYIV. May 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine expects a visit of President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna has said.
At a meeting with the press on Wednesday, she said that during the visit, it is proposed to discuss “two things: the first is the assessment of Ukraine’s progress in meeting seven EU recommendations, and reaching a consensus on a political decision to open accession negotiations.”
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, on the one hand, some of the issues are technical, but on the other hand, a substantive discussion at the highest level will help remove misunderstandings that arise at the level of technical consultations on the seven recommendations.
“So far, the dynamics are quite positive. We expect Ukraine’s position regarding the start of negotiations at the end of 2023 will be supported. The chances are quite high. There is support from Sweden and some partners,” Stefanyshina said.
