Winter crop plantings for 2024 harvest reach 1.58 mln ha – Ministry of Agrarian Policy

KYIV. Sept 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The sowing of winter crops continues in Ukraine, which have already been sown on 1.584 million hectares, compared to 1.155 million hectares a week earlier, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food reported.

According to the report, winter rapeseed was sown on 1 million hectares (a week earlier 905,900 hectares), grain crops – 585,000 hectares (249,000 hectares), of which 514,000 hectares (228,600 hectares) are occupied by wheat, barley – 47,000 hectares (10,800 hectares), and rye – 24,000 hectares (9,500 hectares).

According to the report, over the past week, farmers sowed 336,000 hectares (204,000 hectares) of winter crops for grain.

The most winter grain crops were sown in Sumy region – 84,000 hectares or 81% of the forecast, winter rapeseed in Dnipropetrovsk region – 103,600 hectares or 82.5% of the forecast.

As reported with reference to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the vast majority of farmers do not plan to significantly change the area under winter crops in 2024 compared to last season.
