Zelensky calls for national agreement on tax system issue – address to Rada

KYIV. Dec 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for a national agreement on the tax system.

"We must remember that the financing of the Armed Forces is, first of all, an internal resource from taxes, duties, bonds and other similar sources. And every unpaid hryvnia of taxes is money seized from our military. Of course, the existing tax system does not suit either those who pay taxes or those who collect taxes. It does not suit those of our people who receive salaries and pensions from these taxes. But it is very important that we reach a national agreement on this issue," he said, addressing the Verkhovna Rada on Wednesday on the foundations of domestic and foreign policy.

"Business now is also the protection of Ukraine. Taxes are now also security. This year we had no delays in the salaries of teachers and doctors. Pensions were indexed, as provided by law. In the de-occupied territory, payments begin immediately when stabilization measures are completed. Over UAH 1.200 trillion was allocated for defense in a year," he said.

Zelensky thanked "each and everyone who keeps their businesses running, who keeps jobs so that people can support themselves and their families, and who pay taxes."

"I want to emphasize this again and I want you to know this: international assistance is directed to social benefits. And the entire resource for military salaries is all paid by the citizens of Ukraine," he said.
