Ukrainian PM calls Poland's plans to block Ukrainian grain unfriendly, populist step

KYIV. July 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Poland’s intention to further block the export of Ukrainian grain to the EU in the current critical situation is an unfriendly and populist step that will severely affect world food security and the economy of Ukraine, said Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

“We call on our partners and the European Commission to ensure unhindered export of Ukrainian food to the EU. This is solidarity not only with Ukraine, but also with the world, which needs our grain,” the head of the Ukrainian government said on Twitter Thursday.

He stressed that Russia’s disruption of the grain initiative, its actions to destroy the infrastructure of the Black Sea ports make the situation for Ukraine and for the world food market even more critical.
