Kuleba thanks resigned Dutch Foreign Minister for helping Ukraine

KYIV. Sept 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba thanked Wopke Hoekstra, who submitted his resignation from the post of head of the Netherlands Foreign Ministry, for being the first to publicly advocate the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.

“As Wopke Hoekstra concludes his tenure, I thank him for forging coalitions to strengthen Europe. He was the first to publicly advocate for the transfer of F-16s to Ukraine. It is now a reality, thanks to Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Mark Rutte. Wopke, I wish you well in your future endeavors,” Kuleba said on Twitter.

Earlier, Hoekstra said he had submitted his resignation to the King of the Netherlands.

“It has been an exceptional honour to serve the country as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister,” he said on Twitter.

Hoekstra said he is beginning to prepare for a possible job as European Commissioner in charge of Climate Action.

On Tuesday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she had decided to nominate Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra for the position of European Commissioner in charge of Climate Action.
