KYIV. Oct 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine’s membership in the European Union strategically aligns with the interests of Budapest, but tactically, Hungary wants to get the “maximum” for itself from the current state of the negotiation process, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said.
“Hungary is pursuing a very specific goal of its own in this matter. It is connected with the well-known demands of the Hungarian side regarding the Hungarian minority – persons belonging to the Hungarian minority in Ukraine. They are playing their own game. But Ukraine’s membership in the European Union meets the strategic interests of Budapest. Strategically,” the minister said on air at the national telethon.
According to Kuleba, Budapest is now tactically trying to “make the most of the current state of the negotiation process.”
“As one of President Zelenskyy’s interlocutors said, there is enough strength in the European Union that they will not be influenced by Orbán’s handshakes with Putin,” he added.
