President Zelenskyy to address EU leaders at upcoming summit

BRUSSELS. Oct 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy will address the leaders of the European Union via video link during the summit, which will be held on October 26 and 27 in Brussels.

A senior European diplomat told reporters about this in Brussels on Wednesday on the eve of the summit. He said president Zelenskyy will be in touch with them via videoconference, as it is usually done at the beginning of the meeting. They expect to reaffirm the EU’s unwavering support for Ukraine through various actions, in particular, support in the military, financial and diplomatic sectors.

According to him, the EU also continues to work on various action tracks, not least on frozen (Russian) assets, where EU has progress when it comes to the use of assets, in accordance with EU and international law.

Referring to the issue of revising the European budget, what needs to be done, in particular to implement the proposal to create a so-called Ukrainian fund, the European diplomat said the time has come for leaders to determine the direction – what the priorities will be. According to him, the budget review costs money – extra money will be asked from member states. The big question is what are the priorities and how do they fund them.

When asked whether Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which he shook the Russian president’s hand, would be discussed. He said the EU officials can’t rule it out, but he is not sure it will be done.

In addition, the diplomat did not agree with the assumption that there was fatigue from Ukraine.
