BRUSSELS. Oct 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of the European Council Charles Michel is confident that EU member states will remain united in their support for Ukraine.
He said this on Friday in Brussels before the start of the second day of the European Council meeting. As is known, the position of Hungary and Slovakia, which oppose the continuation of assistance to Ukraine, differs from the position of other EU member states.
We are determined to reiterate and remind that our support for Ukraine will remain unchanged for as long as it takes, Michel said.
According to the President of the European Council, during today’s meeting the leaders will discuss how they can ensure that all their actions to support Ukraine will be continued and even strengthened, that they will continue to put pressure on Russia through their sanctions.
Answering the question about whether unity will be maintained among the bloc’s member countries, in particular on the issue of financing Ukraine, Michel said he was sure of it. Yesterday they had a detailed discussion about the revision of their budget, and it was an opportunity to understand and feel that there is broad support for Ukraine. This is extremely important, because all of us understand that Ukraine is fighting for the future, for its land, they are also fighting for our values and principles, he stated.
