Zelenskyy signs law on compensation for citizens who independently repair housing damaged by occupiers

KYIV. Oct 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law allowing Ukrainian citizens to receive compensation for self-repairs of damaged housing as a result of Russian aggression.

According to the website of the Ukrainian parliament, bill No. 10063 on amending the law on compensation for damage and destruction of certain categories of real estate as a result of hostilities, terrorist acts, sabotage caused by armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine returned to the Verkhovna Rada with the signature of the head of state on Friday.

The law comes into force on January 1, 2024.

As reported, MPs adopted the law at the final reading on October 5. According to the author of the law, Olena Shuliak (the Servant of the People faction), the compensation mechanism will be the same as for other categories of the eRecovery program – the application will need to be submitted through the Diia portal, then a commission will consider it and determine the amount of payment.
